چکیده

the particle morphology and decreased infectivity and re verse transcriptase activity of the virions. The cream fraction was more effective in the physical, biochemical, and biological degradation of the virions than the whole or skimmed milk, but the nature of the degrading component(s) has not been determined. The significance of the destructive effect of human milk upon mouse mammary tumor virus in relation to our search for the putative human breast cancer virus particles and reverse transcriptase activity in human milk isolates has been discussed.

Evidence in favor of the existence of human breast cancer virus.

The existence in some women of a virus that is related to the mouse mammary tumor virus is evidenced by the following. Type B particles are occasionally found in human milk. A complication is the fact that most human milks destroy or damage the murine, mammary tumor virus (MuMTV) and its RNA-directed DNA polymerase (RDDP) when the mouse virus is added to the human milk. Human milk presumably ha...

Effect of anti-viral substances on the mouse mammary tumor milk agent in vivo.

INTRODUCTION The mouse mammary tumor milk agent, which has been shown to play a principal part in the genesis of some mouse mammary tumors (8), has the physical, chemical, and biological properties of a virus (1, 2, 7). The virus-like nature of the milk agent suggests that it may be inhibited by some of the recently discovered anti-viral substances. Inactivation of the agent in vivo without inj...

Comparative Susceptibilities of Hybrid Mice to Four Mammary Tumor Viruses from Two Mouse Strains1

The effect of inoculation of four different strains of murine mammary tumor virus into several mouse strains and their F, hybrids has been measured by both the presence of viral antigen in the milk and the occurrence of mammary tumors. Strain A virus, in low-parity A milk, is highly infectious in BALB/c mice but very poorly infectious in both C57BL and C57BL x BALB/c F, hybrids. Strain Af virus...

Experimental infection of a cat kidney cell line with the mouse mammary tumor virus.

A cat kidney cell line, CRFK-F2, was successfully inoculated in suspension and in monolayer culture with a purified mouse mammary tumor virus derived from RIII milk. The virus produced by the infected cells was identified by immunogluorescence, electron microscopy, and RNA-directed DNA polymerase assays; it was a B-type virion that did not cross-react with mouse or feline leukemia-sarcoma virus...
